KOTA KINABALU – Press freedom is the foundation of good governance said the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun.

“Freedom of press allows the government to be transparent and thereby more able to serve the people,” he said during the Kota Kinabalu Journalist Association (KKJA) Chinese New Year luncheon at Hakka Hall, here today.

Masidi believed that with the media monitoring the government it could develop into a transparency which can ensure better performance.

He also stated that Sabah may be the best example of press freedom in the country.

“With only 3.2 million people in Sabah, we clearly have the highest number of media. However there is a need for the media to have a balanced reporting,” he said. – By Fizah Yusof/SayangSabah
