KOTA KINABALU: Four vehicles have been confiscated during the Roda Trafik Operation yesterday for being used as illegal taxis to pick up passengers without a permit at Kg. Numbak, Menggatal.
The drivers, four local men aged between 30 to 40 years old were also arrested for investigation under Section 33 of the 1987 Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act, while the vehicles consisting of three van and one Toyota Unser are seized under Section 5(1) of the same act.
“The seized vehicles and arrests made by police are based on information and complaints by the public regarding on illegal taxi activities at the area,” said the District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra.
The operation carried out by five personnel and one Kota Kinabalu Traffic Police Officer were also focusing on other traffic offences including the use of fake registration plate and to detect stolen vehicles especially motorcycles.
He also said another operation to tackle illegal immigrant issues will be launched soon at Kg. Numbak.
“Information from the public received by the authorities indicates that more immigrants believed to be illegals are settling at the village area,” he added. – SayangSabah
