KOTA KINABALU: Preachers who come to Sabah are advised to follow the law including asking for permission from the state religious bodies for their activities.

Deputy Minister in the Chief Minister Office, Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, said the requirement is needed to ensure religious activities are held in tune with the cultural scenario of the state which consists of diverse ethnicities and religions.

According to him, preachers from outside of Sabah need to have a qualification certificate from the religious department of their origin, besides from having to attend an interview session to evaluate their oratory and Islamic knowledge.

“We welcome any religious activities in the state regardless of where they (organizer) come from, but they need to be prepared in adhering with the procedures regarding on the methods allowed based on the culture in Sabah which is different from other place. Most importantly, besides from spreading Islam, the harmony among the diverse community in Sabah is also preserved,” he said in a press conference at his office, today.

In another development, Mohd Arifin also announced his department’s plan to launch a training programme to produce more Islamic preachers and orators in Sabah this year. – SayangSabah
