KUANTAN: The Lipis district in Pahang has also been hit by floods after Raub, but the number of evacuees overall dropped to 62 people from 18 families this afternoon as compared to 81 people from 14 families in the
Civil Defence Department director for Pahang, Zainal Yusoff said 23 people from eight families from Kampung Beletik were evacuated to Sekolah Lubuk Kulit in Lipis this afternoon.
“In Raub, the evacuation centre at Bangunan Gerakan Persatuan Wanita (GPW) Felda Tersang was closed and the 25 flood victims from six families sheltered there were allowed to return to their homes at noon.
“Two evacuation centres are still in operation, Balai Raya Kampung Tersang where 19 people from three families are being sheltered and Masjid Jamek Kampung Kuala Semantan which is housing 20 people from seven families,” he told Bernama.
In TENOM, Sabah, 468 flood victims from 142 families were evacuated to four flood relief centres since 10am.
Tenom district officer Madiyem Layapan said they were now being sheltered at the Ponontomon, Labut 1 and 2 and Lalandang relief centres.
He added that the water level at the Padas River was rising fast and that he expected more people to be displaced.
In MIRI, two relief centres were opened, one in Lawas and the other in Limbang to accomodate flood victims.
Dewan Masyarakat Trusan in Lawas was opened in the morning and is now accomodating 57 evacuees from 18 families while 258 victims from 68 families living in ulu Medamit Limbang were moved to Dewan Nanga Medamit in Limbang.
Limbang Welfare Department officer Goh Yong Kiet told Bernama that the department was extending all needed aid to the victims.-BERNAMA
