SIPITANG: Sabah Wildlife Department (JHLS) arrested five men to help with the investigation on illegal poaching at Mendulong, within the territory gazetted to Sabah Forestry Department (SFD) in Sipitang on 5th February ago.
Deputy Director of JHLS, Augustine Tunga said, all suspects are identified as Malaysians and believed to poach illegally without any commercial hunting license.
“In the latest operations by JHLS, we have seized two slaughtered wild boars weighing more than 50 kilogrammes from the territory.
“Two custom-made guns or ‘bakakuk” and several live bullets were also seized. All suspects have been handed to the police for further actions,” he said in his statement here, today.
The department will also continue with its operations to enforce the law to tackle wildlife crimes in Sabah, and also to receive reports made by the public regarding on wildlife crime that occurred in their area, Augustine remarked.
“This proves that the public is expressing their responsibility in protecting wildlife in Sabah. I hope for more people to give information to the department to help in preventing wildlife crimes.
