TAWAU: About 300 people believed to be illegal immigrants were detained during two operations held at the market site in Ladang Dumpas Brumas here today.

The operations dubbed “Ops Lejang” and Ops “Cegah Jenayah” held at 6am saw five detainees aged 20 to 35 years old, arrested for not having proper travel documents.

“Five of the men were found to possessed syabu (methamphetamine), while three others tested positive for drug abuse after a urine test was conducted,”District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Awang Besar Dullah said.

All four suspects have been remanded for further investigation under the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Meanwhile, 33 motorcycles abandoned by their owners at a Police roadblock were also confiscated and brought to the police station.

Owners were advised to come and collect their vehicles with proper documentations within one month pending which their bikes will be auctioned off by the relevant authorities.

About 30 summonses have been issued by Police for various traffic offences- Sayangsabah.
