KUNDASANG: Eighty-eight climbers comprising employees of Sabah Parks, Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment agencies, Media, NGOs, and mountain guides today have gathered together for the first climbing activities to Laban Rata since the closure of the area in 6 June.
Sabah Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Masidi Manjun, said the expedition is also joined by two expert groups from Canada and Japan where they will help in identifying necessary repairs that need to be carried out by Sabah Parks for the new trail.
“All participants will climb up to Laban Rata before they are scheduled to go down to Timpohon Gate at 2.00pm,” he said during the Kinabalu Daily Climbing launching ceremony.
He also said the climbing activities at Mount KInabalu is planned to open for the public in 1 September, but it will depend on the inspection and technical research findings that will be made by the expert groups.
“The decision will be made after another technical meeting in 11 August between the expert groups and Sabah Parks,” he added. – SayangSabah.
