TAWAU:-The Sabah Royal Customs Department confiscated 1,448 boxes of fireworks valued at RM162,945 at a godown in Jalan Ranggu Batu 8,here last Wednesday.
Its deputy director Yunos Tahir said acting on a tip-off and intelligence by the department, the enforcement division raided a godown at about 4 pm.
“On inspection, 1,448 boxes of fireworks were found stashed in the godown,” he told a media conference here today.
He said no individuals were arrested in the raid, nonetheless, customs had identified the owner of land and godown.
Yunos said from initial investigations, customs believed the fireworks were for sale in the local market during the Chinese New Year.
He said the fireworks seizure was the second in the district this year.
Meanwhile, Yunus hoped members of the public would cooperate with customs by providing information on individuals or companies storing or owning fireworks or fire crackers. – BERNAMA
