KOTA KINABALU: As pledged, the UMNO Welfare Bureau has handed over July’s financial assistance to mountain guides who lost their source
of income after climbing activities at Mount Kinabalu was halted due to the June 5 earthquake.
Ranau UMNO Youth chief Faez Nordin said the first monthly financial assistance of RM168,000 was handed over to 250 Mount Kinabalu guides by bureau chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim on July 9, at a national civics bureau camp in Kundasang.
He said of the 250 guides, 170 full-time guides received RM800 each while 80 part-time guides were each given RM400.
“The financial aid for mountain guides in the second month will be presented in August at the Ranau UMNO division office. However, the date will be
determined later,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
On June 10, Abdul Azeez announced that the UMNO Welfare Bureau would provide financial aid for three months to mountain guides who lost their source of income, following the earthquake.
He had said this was a gesture to lighten their burden while waiting for mountain climbing at Mount Kinabalu to resume.- BERNAMA
