LABUAN: Inspection work on the Labuan-Menumbok 132kV underwater electric grids is now on its final phase.
The operation begins in last April and carried out in several phases to gather information regarding on the old cables’ safety and condition.
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) today in its statement said the final phase involves the works to identify routes and measures the depth of existing cables from the surface.
According to SESB, the overall cost for the project is more than RM2.5 million and with its completion the cables will be the main electricity network system connecting Labuan and Sabah.
Initial findings from the Japanese experts selected for the project has found that the old cables that have been operational since 1989 are still under a good condition.
A complete report and suggestions for upgrade works for the project are expected to be completed and presented by selected experts by the end of next month. -SayangSabah
