TAWAU:  Marine police detained a Filipino man and confiscated 200 grammes of syabu (methamphetamine) valued at about RM26,000 in the waters of Batu-Batu, Sabindo here yesterday.

Sabah region four marine police commander, ACP Mohamad Madun said the suspect, in his 50’s, was detained in an operation by a patrol team in the area at about 8.30 am.

“During the patrol, a marine policeman saw a man behaving suspiciously while carrying a red plastic bag on board a fishing boat that was anchored in the area.  Investigations revealed that the man was not carrying any valid travel documents and the plastic bag contained four packets of crystal substances
believed to be methamphetamine,” he said at a media conference here today.

Mohamad said the man was later taken to the Tawau marine police office for further action and the case was being investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – BERNAMA
