KENINGAU: A female student was killed in an accident when her motorcycle was hit by a car at Kilometer 70, Jalan Keningau-Sapulut, near here, yesterday.
The victim, aged 17, was declared dead at Klinik Kesihatan Nabawan, caused by severe injuries on the head while her two friends were in a critical condition, receiving treatment at Keningau Hospital.
District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Douglas Taong, said that the driver with her wife and daughter aged nine years old, was not injured during the incident.
Based on the police report, the three students were on the bike when the car driven by the 52 years old man was moving from Keningau-Nabawan to Sapulut.
The car driver made a turned to a junction heading to Kg. Sarikan at the right side of the road to visit his mother in-law. while entering the junction, he braked his vehicle as the road was potholed.
“At the same time, the motorcycle which was coming from the front hit the rear side of the vehicle. While the driver and his family were unharmed, the three students which were not using helmets were thrown from their motorcycle and fell on the road,” he said, here today.
Douglas said, early police investigation foun that the accident occurred due to the driver’s negligence when entering the junction without giving way for the motorcycle which was coming from the front direction. The investigation proceed under Section 41(1) APJ 1987.
Meanwhile, in another accident a female child aged five years old was killed in an accident involving a Toyota Vigo at Kilometer 22 Jalan Keningau-Sook, early this morning.
In the accident, a 22 years old man was severely injured his head while two women received light injuries.
The accident occurred when a vehicle driven by a 54 years old man went out of control when heading down from a curved road, crashed at the right roadside, hit a tree and finally overturned on the road.
Early police investigation found the accident was caused by the vehicle went out of control due to the driver’s lack of sleep. – SayangSabah
