PENAMPANG: Extremism would not ensure peace and stability for the nation, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
He said in line with democratic practices, the people in this country should therefore practise moderation, even in celebrating a festival, for harmony to prevail in a mulracial, multicultural and multireligious society.
“Whatever our differences, whether in views or political opinions, we should best manage these differences and we cannot continue to quarrel to the extent of jeopardising our efforts to bring development to the people.”
Salleh said this when met by reporters at a Christmas open house organised by the Penampang UMNO division, here, today.
He said the Barisan Nasional (BN) was responsible in ensuring its promises to the people were fulfilled.
“In a democratic system, the respective (BN component) parties have their roles to play and so do the opposition parties.
“But the opposition cannot oppose just for the sake of destabilising the country’s political situation,” he added.
