TAMPARULI – Sabah is not only famous for it’s tourism spots but also its exotic and unique cuisines.
One of the sought out exotic food is the tuhau which is a traditional side dish usually found in the interior parts of Sabah such as Tambunan, Keningau and Ranau.
It is a condiment made from wild ginger mixed with lime or vinegar, garlic and chilli. The main ingredient is the tuhau; a plant from the zingerberaceae family, or wild ginger that grow wild and abundant in the Sabah’s forest.
Tuhau makes a great side dish for any other food. However, its distinct pungent smell is a challenge for most people. This exotic food is available in tamu markets and even small shops around Sabah.
