KOTA KINABALU: The State Cabinet has requested the federal government to give exemption on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) for domestic flights airfares between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
Community Development and Consumers Affair Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayib, disclosed the request was made during the recent State Cabinet briefing on GST conducted by personnel from Kuala Lumpur.
She said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun raised the matter as the arrival of visitors to Sabah rely heavily on air connectivity.
She said State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman had already written an official letter to the federal government to consider the request.
She told this to reporters after accompanying Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hasan Malek to visit some of the hypermarkets here to monitor the first day implementation of the GST in the country.- Sayangsabah
