KOTA KINABALU: Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) welcomes the setting up of two additional temporary detention centre (PTS) in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone).
Esscom Executive Chief Officer, Ruji UBi, said the two PTS will accommodate more arrested illegal immigrants and speed up the process to return them to their home countries.
“Esscom is in need for these facilities to strengthen our modus operandi to tackle PATI issue in Esszone. The existing PTS in Tawau, Sandakan, and Kota Kinabalu could only contain 6,000 to 8,000 PATI at one time; this is one of our obstacles.
“Esscom welcomes this additional centres, and I am confident that it will contribute in the effort to efficiently handle illegal immigration problems especially in Esszone,” he said when met after the Sabah level of Pilgrimage Course for West Coast Zone, officiated by the Sabah Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, at UMS Mosque, yesterday.
Ruji was responding to the statement made by the Deputy Prime Minister cum the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, where two more PTS with the cost of RM50 million will be built in Tawau and Lahad Datu.
Ahmad Zahid was also quoted saying that the decision was made through the consensus during the Sabah Foreign Workers Centralized Committee meeting in Friday, based on the suggestions made in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants issue in the state.
Ruji said Esscom with the help of the state and federal government enforcement agencies will double their efforts to curb illegal entries and pursue PATI in Esszone area. – SayangSabah
