TAWAU: Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) acknowledges the contributions and role of Neighbourhood Watch (RT) especially in keeping the peace and preserving harmony among the grassroot community in Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZONE).
In this regard, ESSCOM Secretariat Division Director, Newmond Tibin, hopes for ESSCOM to continue to keep the cooperation network with RT members especially in information channeling regarding on the presence of illegal immigrants or security in their areas.
“I believe that through various activities between ESSCOM and RT in neighbourhood programmes, it will improve the level of security in ESSZONE.
“We are well aware that in order to keep the peace and harmony, we need a strong unity among the people in every level,” he said in the ‘ESSCOM and RT Cooperation’ Seminar organized by National Integration Training and Research Institute under the National Integration and Unity Department, here yesterday.
He was representing ESSCOM Executive Chief Officer, Ruji Ubi, in the programme which was attended by more than 50 RT members from Semporna and Tawau.
Newmond calls for all RT members to become the eyes and ears of the authority by sending information regarding on illegal immigrants (PATI) and helping in the government effort to eradicate illegals from ESSZONE.
Previously, ESSCOM Intelligence Deputy Director, Hashim Justin, reminds the RT members not to be involved or protect any illegals in their area.
He said any local citizens who are found dealing with PATI will be punished according to the law.
“We do not want any locals to become PATI sympathizer or helping cross-border criminals who are threatening our security,” he said. – SayangSabah
