PITAS: Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) together with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will launch a large-scale operation soon to tackle integrity issue among civil servants, especially on those who are serving in the enforcement division under the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZONE) jurisdiction.
Deputy Director of ESSCOM Intelligence, Assistant Commissioner Hashim Justin, said they take the issue seriously and committed to cleanse the public machinery especially in the enforcement division in ESSZONE area from integrity problems.
“ESSCOM is now facing two security threats which come from outside (the country) and threats from within. Inside threats do not solely come from illegals (PATI) who become informants for armed militants and cross-border criminals, but also from ‘insiders’ consisting of civil servants (enforcement officers) involved with corruption and abuse of power that leads to PATI entrance and smuggling in ESSZONE,” he said.
Hashim was giving his speech during the talk on security at a breaking of fast ceremony held by ESSCOM at Pangiran Haji Abdul Karim Mosque, Kg. Kalumpang.
Also present at the event were ESSCOM Executive Chief Officer, Ruji Ubi, and its Director of Operation Centre, Brigadier General Datuk Tuan Roslan Tuan Ismail.
Hashim said the matter has been brought and discussed by the higher level and ESSCOM together with MACC have agreed to carry out the operation. – SayangSabah
