KUALA LUMPUR: A man sustained severe burns believed due to electrocution while trying to steal copper wires at the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation at Seri Seroja Apartment in Bukit Beruntung yesterday.
Hulu Selangor District Police chief Supt R. Supramaniam said it was 11 pm when local residents found the man in an unconscious state with severe burn marks at the scene.
Supramaniam said the man, 35, was believed to have trespassed into the TNB substation to steal copper wires, but was electrocuted when he tried to cut the wires.
He said the man, who did not possess any identification document, was taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment and currently in stable condition.
“The TNB has confirmed having received a call from its Supply Restoration Centre about copper cable being cut opened and that a man was found in an unconscious state near the substation,” he told Bernama when contacted here today.
Supramaniam said the suspect was believed to have committed the offence with several other men and efforts were being done to track down his accomplices still at large.
The case is being investigated under Section 431a and 511 of the Penal Code.- BERNAMA
