KENINGAU: Eight foreign men have been arrested in an operation launched at Kg. Durok and Kg. Pomotodon, Tambunan, yesterday.
District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Douglas Nyeging Taong, said 32 individuals were inspected, involving 25 men and 7 women, leading to the arrest of eight men for not possessing valid identification documents.
The operation carried out by four officers and 23 personnel is to detect and arrest illegal immigrants (PATI) in the district, he said.
“Those that are arrested will be charged under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act. The operation is also to prevent and tackle crimes committed by illegals such as snatch theft and break-ins,” he said to the media.
The operation is also to reduce public worries among the local communities on the presence of illegal immigrants and to maintain safety and public order, he added. – SayangSabah
