KUDAT: Providing education to a child is an arduous task, which requires teachers to have patience, care and perseverance.

Through education one can overcome poverty as shown by a poor bumiputera fisherman who insisted his children must go to school.

Owing to his persistent encouragement to his children to work hard, one of them scored 10As in SPM and was accepted to undertake a medical degree in university, said Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Teo Chee Kang in sharing a success story of a destitute fisherman.

“This bumiputra fisherman should be our role model. Parents ought to pay attention and supervise their children’s academic progress and discipline, as well as encourage them to pursue tertiary education upon completing their secondary school education,” said Teo during the Teachers’ Day celebration at Dewan Tun Mustapha here.

On the other hand, Teo said the Barisan Nasional (BN) Government allocated huge amount of funds annually for education development as literacy is crucial to our country prosperity and progress in order become a developed nation.-Sayangsabah
