KOTA KINABALU: A security guard rammed a vehicle owned by Road Transportation Department (JPJ) in his effort to escape arrest by the authority during the 30-minute chase by the police at Jalan Tuaran Bypass, yesterday afternoon.
District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra, said the incident happened when the suspect’s drug abuse activities were found out by his superior after his drug kits were found hidden inside the bag of the 29-year-old suspect.
“Fearing arrest, the suspect then drove away using his colleague’s Nissan Vannette,” he said.
According to him, at about 9.30am of the same day, his colleague noticed that his van parked in front of the security booth at one of the school in Likas has gone missing and made a police report.
Police patrol vehicle detected the van in Likas but the suspect speeds away, leading to a 30-minute pursuit up to Jalan Tuaran Bypass.
“In his attempt to escape, the suspect rammed a JPJ vehicle which was doing a roadblock operation at the scene,” he said, adding that the security guard was then caught at Taman Bayu Kolombong, Inanam, with the assistance of four police patrol units.
Urine test shows that the suspect is drug positive for meth and he is investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“The suspect is also investigated under Section 379A /511 of the Penal Code for attempting to steal motorized vehicle,” he said. – SayangSabah
