KOTA KINABALU – Malaysian have less than a week before the commencement of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the April 1st.

Ready or not the enforcement of the GST will take place; however knowledge on GST is still wanting on both traders and consumers.

“When you have a car traders made a statement on the newspaper stating the public need to buy car before the government enforced GST; that is just wrong,” said the that we are looking into is by giving them training,” said the Minister of Community Development and Consumers Affairs Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid to reporters after the Sabah Council of Social Services (MPMS) presentation of grant to volunteers and NGOs organisations, today.

She stated that some of the traders has caused confusion among the public.

“The GST will not burden the people but actually it is for the developments of our country,” she said.

Jainab also disclosed that this irresponsible parties only focus on profiteering and this would fed a misinformation and backlash the government’s true intention.

“Logically speaking, when the sales tax and services tax replaced with GST; the price of goods and services will be reduced; so I don’t see if there are issue on increasing of price,” she said.

She called on the public to come forward and report any incidences of unscrupulous traders misusing GST for their gain. – By Fizah Yusof/SayangSabah
