TENOM: Sabah Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Radin Malleh, said the unity and harmony of the multiracial communities must be defended for continuous development and the well being of the people in the state.

He added that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government never stops implementing socio-economic transformation programmes for the nation’s progress.

The Melalap State Assemblyman (ADUN) expresses his opinion during officiating the Lau Sang ceremony for Chinese New Year Celebration organized by Kapitan-Kapitan Cina Tenom in Tenom Town, on Wednesday.

The Lau Sang event organized by the organization is one of the channels to strengthen the ties and unity of the communities in Tenom, he commended.

The government always encourages non-government organizations (NGO) to organize activities that is beneficial for the unity and understanding between different ethnicities in the state, he said.

Radin who is also Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Vice President, added that the Chinese community also play a role in socio-economic development and political stability in Sabah.

“The Chinese community especially in the district are urged to participate in the efforts done by the government to implement its development transformation programmes.

“Their (Chinese community) response for these transformation programmes is important to ensure its success,” he added.

Also present at the ceremony is Senator Datuk Dr, Lucas Umbul and  his wife, Tenom District Officer, Madiyem Layapan, Melalap Community Development Leader, Simon Mamat, Sabah Ministry of Infrastructure Development Political Secretary, Stanis Buandi, Lau Sang Ceremony Organizer, Kapitan Liew Foh Sin, Datin Angelin Tom, Tenom Chinese kapitans, Melalap PBS Women Chief, Rosnah Ullap, Melalap PBS Youth Leader, Martin Juanis, and Tenom community leaders. – SayangSabah
