KOTA KINABALU: DBKK and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on improving waste management system at DBKK building, this evening.
The three-year contract between DBKK and JICA is to improve the waste management system and introduce new initiatives in management and domestic waste collection in the city.
Kota Kinabalu Mayor, Datuk Abidin Madingkir, said the contract that will be implemented by the Association Conference of Earth Environment from Akita (CEEA) is beneficial in increasing knowledge on waste management for the city.
“Ensuring the city remains clean, especially for the shoreline area of Kota Kinabalu is not easy and it is a challenging task. But I am confident that with the newly signed MoU, this responsibility will give encouraging result,” he said.
The MoU is not the first cooperation ties made by JICA in Sabah, where it was once involved with several programmes including the cooperation ties with Kota Kinabalu Wetland Center, Sabah park office, and participated in the Sustainable Development for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Conservation (SDBEC) for 10 years. –SayangSabah
