Corporate companies urged to improve CSR

SIPITANG:Corporate companies in the state are urged to prioritise the welfare of the communities in the corporate social responsibilities (CSR) programmes.

Sipitang MP, Datuk Sapawi Ahmad, said corporate companies need to set their focus to contribution for communities welfare, and not only for profit.

According to him, CSR integration effort in every programmes involving operation development aspect is important even when several companies think that it is only weakening their competitiveness.

“CSR programmes guarantees the long term survival of a corporate company as communities are the key resource for growth and long term profit.

“Its implementation will need a creative approach and not solely based on money, as it also includes socioeconomic development and education,” he said in his speech for officiating Mesapol ‘Taima Kasih Programme, here today.

In the programme, various activities were organizes such as cooking competition, football match, and painting exhibition by Petronas Cari Gali Sdn Bhd at Dewan Mini Pekan Mesapol.

Meanwhile, Sapawi who is also the director of Sabah Foundation calls for corporate companies in the country to  simulate Petronas initiatives which is active in its CSR programmes across the country.

He cited Petronas CSR programme in Mesapol as example, where its Dalak Project in the area is 80 percent completed and scheduled to be finished by September to transport gas from Sabah to Labuan through Sabah/Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP). – SayangSabah
