TENOM: About RM350,000 has been channelled to Christian bodies in the district to repair church buildings next year.
Tenom MP, Datuk Raime Unggi, said in last year he had allocated RM300,000 for the same purpose.
However, since the was a request by Christian bodies in the district to increase the allocation, the additional RM50,000 was granted to cover the repair and maintenance costs of churches in the district.
“We listen to what is needed by our area. We are not only helping Islamic bodies, but also organizations of other faiths,” he said when launching the Contribution Presentation Ceremony for Churches in Tenom Parliamentary, at SJK Chung Hwa Main Hall, in Saturday.
He said the larger financial assistance is evidence of the government’s concern for the welfare of all religious bodies in Malaysia, in accordance with the concept of 1Malaysia.
Some 123 church organizations from various denominations in Tenom parliamentary receive the financial assistance as their preparation to celebrate Christmas this year, with the amount of RM300 and RM500 for large churches respectively. –SayangSabah
