CM: Use ICT applications to promote efficiency and economy

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman called upon government agencies and the private sector to further improve the application of ICT in their respective organizations.

He made this call in his speech read on his behalf by Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun at the launch of the 7th State Level ICT Seminar earlier today at Dewan Resital, University Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

“We should keep abreast with the development and advancement of today’s technology, especially new technology  that can further  contribute to efficiency and economy of government and management machinery,”  he said.

Musa further stressed that Information Technology Officers and Chief Information Officers (CIO) should keep track  of the latest advancements of ICT, and be fully conversant with the needs of the departments under their care.

Careful planning, he said, will help decrease wastage and increase the efficiency of government agencies in providing services to the people.

The seminar is jointly organized by MAMPU (Malaysian Administrative Modernization and Management Planning Unit) Sabah, INTAN (National Institute of Public Administration) Sabah, JPKNS (State Computer Service Department), Malaysian Cocoa Board and this year’s seminar host, UMS.

According to Vice Chancellor Datuk Dr Harun Abdullah, this year’s theme “Green Computing” is in line with UMS’s aim to become the nation’s first EcoCampus.

He said the implementation of a centralized database and the application of virtual server is an example of what UMS’s Information Technology and Communications Department has done to conserve energy.

Additionally, he said these applications also reduce the frequency of hardware disposal, or e-waste, a move consistent which their focus on ecological protection.

He further pointed out that the university is particularly committed towards green computing practices for the benefit of future generations.

Amongst those present at the launch were UMS Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof. Dr Shahril Yusof, Head of Registrar, Left. Col. Datuk Abdullah Mohd Said, MAMPU Sabah Director Kaneyasen Perumal, JPKNS Director Dr Mingu Jumaan, Malaysian Cocoa Board Deputy Director General (Research and Development) Kelvin Lamin and INTAN Sabah Regional Director Mohd Nawardi Saad.
