KOTA KINABALU: Both the Special Branch Unit of Sabah Police Contingent and the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) are working closely together and meet almost every week to share and exchange information in a bid to combat cross-border crime.
So far, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the information gathered by both parties were mostly similar.
He said this in response to the remarks by former deputy director of Police Special Branch Unit Datuk Dr Leong Chee Woh last month that the two forces should collaborate in a bid to combat cross-border crimes in Sabah.
Leong, who retired from the police service in 1984, said a situation when the two units were not ‘talking’ to each other was the reason the cross-border criminals were always one step ahead of them.
However, Jalaluddin refuted the allegation saying that the police and ESSCom had indeed established a very close cooperation in Sabah.- BERNAMA
