KOTA KINABALU: Civil servants are urged to be more proactive and have the necessary knowledge and skills to face any challenge.
Sabah State Government Secretary, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sukarti Wakiman, said public employees are agents of transformation that connects both the government and the community.
“Various challenges faced in today’s globalization era include open economy, high competitiveness, and constant changes in the development of science and technology.
“These challenges require civil servants to be highly knowledgeable and skilled,” he said during the 18th series of Dialog Semasa Negara programme.
He stressed that as government servants, they need to have the five criteria set by the Prime Minister, which are transparency, good working ethic, patriotism, and competency.
Various approach needs to be implemented to reform public service in term of ethics, management, transparency, and sense of responsibility, he added.
The platform to share information will also enable public servants to help the government to answer questions and explain to the public on national policies.
He also said they need to understand the current issues happening inside and outside the country.
“Understanding the background of certain issues and the rationale of the government’s policies will help to solve some of the raising problems,” he explained.
Regarding on the dialogue session, he said it is a stage for government workers to gather information about their professions and relevant fields from the panelists. –SayangSabah
