KOTA KINABALU: A Chinese tourist drowned while taking a swim at Pantai Pulau Sapi, in an incident that happened 2.40pm yesterday.
District Police Chief, ACP M. Chandra, said the incident was reported by a beach guard for Sabah Parks, who said he heard cries for help and immediately rushed to the scene,
“When he reached the area, he saw the victim drowning in the water of Laut Pulau Sapi,” he said.
The victim was believed to have drowned due to not wearing safety jacket before entering the water as briefed by Sabah Parks Department to all visitors.
The victim was then brought to Marina Sutera Harbour at 3.05pm, and immediately rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with an ambulance. However, he was declared dead at 4.30pm.
Initial investigation discovered that the victim entered Sabah on 16 February ago along with his wife and child through a local travel agency, and they would return on 20 February.
“Further investigation has found no criminal element at the scene. Autopsy on the victim’s body will be carried out as soon as possible at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Pathology Department,” he added.
Sabah Parks beach guards said that the victim was about 100m away from the shoreline when he drowned. -SayangSabah
