Kota Kinabalu: The new Consul General of the People’s Republic of China for Sabah, Chen Peijie accompanied by her Deputy Consul General, Sun Xiaowu and Chen Xin, Consular Attache have made a courtesy visit to the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah cum Minister of Industrial Development, Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah on yesterday.

Consul General Chen informed the minister that she and her colleagues had decided to celebrate the Chinese New Year festival in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah for their first time.

Tan welcomed them to experience the way of the Spring Festival being celebrated in Sabah. According to Consul General Chen, although they were attached in Kota Kinabalu for just a few weeks, but they already felt the warm hospitality of the people of Sabah.

During the discussion, Consul General Chen did informed Datuk Raymond Tan that they are currently busy in identifying a suitable place to establish their office in Sabah.

Tan briefed Consul General Chen and her officials on industrial development in Sabah and sought the assistance of Consul General Chen to assist in getting Chinese’s investors to Sabah, especially in high-tech downstream activities.

Sabah has the advantage of being strategically located in the BIMP-EAGA region and also suitable to be promoted as the transhipment hub, such as for the development of Halal food downstream industries and other related products, in which can be exported to the Middle East and other countries.

Tan also expressed his gratitude and hope that the Consulate Office of People’s Republic of China in Sabah will help to promote and spur cultural exchanges.- Sayangsabah
