Cheating death and celebrate Deepavali

JOHOR BAHARU:  G.Uthayagandi can thank his lucky stars to have narrowly escaped death when his high-powered Kawasaki X10 skidded and crashed into the road divider yesterday morning.

Although he had to celebrate Deepavali in hospital with injuries on his hands and legs, Uthayagandi, 20, was in high spirits when met at the emergency ward of Puteri Specialist Hospital here.

“My motorbike was badly wrecked and pinned under the road divider when I skidded due to the slippery road condition. Thankfully, I escaped with minor injuries and was able to call home to tell my family of my mishap,” he said.

Uthayagandi was heading to work in Singapore from his home in Gelang Patah when the mishap occurred.

According to his father M.Uthayakumar, 45, his eldest son, who works as an auxiliary police officer in Singapore, usually leaves home very early in the morning.

“Yesterday we got a call from him at 5 am telling us that he was involved in an accident. We rushed to the scene and sent him to the hospital,” said

Uthayakumar who was accompanied by his wife and daughter at the ward.  He said celebrating this year’s Deepavali in hospital was definitely out of the ordinary, as every year they would be with relatives in their hometown in Penang.

“Of course we are sad with this turn of events, but we are glad our son is alright,” he added.- BERNAMA
