KOTA KINABALU: The Chinese New Year festival is one of the main celebration in the country which show the peoples’ freedom to practice their own cultures.
Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, said it is proven by the interaction shown by the multiracial communities in Sabah where they attend every celebration, a true essence of the 1Malaysia concept.
“Whether we are celebrating Hari Raya, Kaamatan, Chinese New Year, the spirit (unity) is evident especially in Sabah. For me, we have to be proud with our achievement when we celebrate festivals in this state.”
“The harmony we have is not only shown during the festive season but it exists among us, practiced since time immemorial,” he told reporters during the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Chinese New Year Open House.
The open house was attended by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman, and his wife, Datin Seri Faridah Tussin, with the members of the State Cabinet as well as Ministers and Sabah BN component parties leaders .
Pairin who is also PBS President, added that harmony and peace in the country today enable the people from various religions and ethnicity to celebrate many kinds of festivities together. It is the product of cooperation and understanding between the government and the public.
He elaborates that this practice must be preserved for the benefit of future generation, in accordance with the nation’s effort to achieve developed status in all aspect by the year 2020.
MCA Penampang Division also contributes hamper donations worth RM200 each for 260 residents in Kepayan area to reduce their burden during the open house. A donation of RM15,000 are also presented to Jonathan Wong family, a Morning Post journalist who suffers paralysis. – Sayangsabah.
