KOTA KINABALU: Celebrating a festival together in a multi-racial society must be continued even in the current global economic downturn, said Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.
He said the celebration of a festival via the practice of the open house concept must not be sacrificed as it helped enhance ties among the people especially when facing difficulties, although the nation must be prudent in its spending this year.
“This (open house) is one of the programmes that really helps to unite us, so that we do not forget to continue our sense of belonging, our sense of unity and the spirit of cooperation between us.
“This is the noble aspiration which we must continue, albeit on a moderate scale,” he said when met by reporters at an open house in conjunction with Chinese New Year organised by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) here, today.
The event was also attended by Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
Pairin, who is also PBS president, also hoped the people would be staunch in facing the challenges of the economy this year and be together with the government to achieve progress.- BERNAMA
