Carnival in KK for Chinese New Year

KOTA KINABALU: Some 400 stalls selling various products will be opened for the three days event of Chinese New Year Carnival, beginning on Feb 13 from 6.00pm until 11.00pm at Lintasan Deasoka and Jalan Gaya.

The Deputy Director General (Operation) of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Joannes Solidau, said the carnival is organized by DBKK with the collaboration of the Federation of Chinese Association Sabah (FCAS).

“The opening ceremony will be officiated by the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, on Friday (13 February) at 8.00pm.

“Choir, 24 season drum performance, and ‘Lau Sang’ are some of the many interesting activities planned. Visitors will also be entertained with stage performance such as lion dance, ‘belly’ dance and hip hop. Fireworks show will be the finale for the first night,” she said in her statement, here yesterday.

On the second day of the carnival Feb 14 , a banquet with senior citizens and children will be held at Lintasan Deasoka which will be attended by Datin Seri Faridah Hj. Tussin, the wife of the Chief Minister.

Singing performances including the choir ‘Nyang Guang’, and also a fashion show performed by six senior citizens will be part of the carnival as entertainment for the visitors.

For the final day Feb 15, the Carnival Closing Ceremony will be attended by the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Ir. Edward Yong Oui Fah; with fireworks show as the highlight for the final day.

Jalan Gaya, Jalan Bandaran, and Jalan Perpustakaan will be closed to give way for the carnival which begins from 6.00pm to 11.00pm.
