KOTA KINABALU: The Chinese New Year Carnival 2015 will be held from Feb 13 to 15 at Lintasan Deasoka here.
The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) and City Hall will collaborate on the event, according to the FCAS president Datuk Dr Goh Tian Chuan.
He said the organising committee from FCAS chaired by Datuk Jimmy Yong Kyok Ming will also initiate a fund raising campaign for financial support from members to organise the auspicious programme.
“We need a budget of RM400, 000 to stage the event and now we already secured half of the funds including an annual grant from the State government,” Goh said.
Jimmy will be assisted by both FCAS vice presidents Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen and Datuk Nancy Ho.
The carnival will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman.
The three days celebration to start from 6pm to 11pm will feature performances from Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School, SJKC Shan Tao, SJKC Chung Hwa, SJKC St James, Kian Kok Middle School and Kota Kinabalu High School.
During the event, a singing competition, violin, wushu, choir, acapella, string orchestra and modern jazz/hip hop as well as acrobatic performances by a troupe from China as well as lion dances will be held.
On Feb 14, which is also Valentine Day, some 100 senior citizens and orphans will be treated to a dinner and receive ang pows.
FCAS will also hold a “Malam Muhibbah Chinese New Year Party 2015” on Feb 23 at the Dewan Hakka here.
“More than 1000 guests are expected to attend the function which is on the fifth day of the lunar New Year,” he said.
Guests will be entertained by singers from Penang, traditional Chinese dances. There will also be distribution of ang pows, oranges and lucky draws .- By Bosco Wong/Sayangsabah
