KOTA KINABALU – More than thirty medical practitioners around Sabah attend a night of sharing knowledge with three renowned doctors coming from Singapore at the CanHOPE Continuous Medical Education (CME) talk session at the Pacific Sutera Harbour, Kota Kinabalu.
CanHOPE a non-profit cancer counselling and support service is an initiative by Parkway Cancer Centre dedicated to help patients, their families and the general public to cope and have a better understanding on cancer.
The speakers for tonight sessions are Dr Ho Siew Hong an Urologist from Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Dr Quah Hak Mien a General Surgeon at the Gleneagles Hospital and Dr Foo Kian Fong a Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist from Parkway Cancer Centre.
According to Dr Ho the session will be more on sharing and updating information among the medical practitioners.
“In this matter, we (the speakers) are going to share our experience and knowledge to the local doctors on our field of expertise. For Me, as my expertise is on urologist that will be more on kidney, bladder and the prostate,” he said to the media at the press conference on the talk earlier today.
Ho disclosed that the talk for tonight is on cancer and it will be spread into various types of cancer; where new innovations in treatment will be shared as well as tools and equipment for the treatment of the decease.
Updating the development of rare cancer is also one of the talk for tonight session.
“Gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) is a rare type of sarcoma found in the digestive system, most often in the wall of the stomach. I will be talking about this cancer and its new development and treatment,” Dr Foo said.
For Dr Quah, he said that tonight his talk will touch on screening early detection of cancer as well as new development and treatment for the disease. – By Fizah Yusof/SayangSabah
