KUALA LUMPUR: The government of Canada will host a four-day photo exhibition on child marriage here from next Thursday (Feb 25).
The exhibition dubbed ‘Girls’ Voice: Speaking Out Against Child Marriage’ is expected to be launched by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim at Berjaya Times Square.
The High Commission of Canada to Malaysia in a statement today said as child marriage affected 15 million girls a year worldwide, the exhibition shared the untold stories of girls forced into or at risk of child marriage.
“We believe the protection of women and girls in society is essential for peaceful, prosperous and stable countries.
Together with our global partner Girls Not Brides, we are proud to bring this exhibit to Malaysia to encourage the public to visit,” said the High Commissioner for Canada to Malaysia, Judith St. George in the statement.
The exibition features stories from girls, boys, women and men, as well as religious and traditional leaders from countries in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
The exhibition will run from 10 am to 10 pm daily.- BERNAMA
