KOTA KINABALU-Bumblebee retained the champion title two years in a row when they appeared as the winner of the open category in Netball President Cup Championship that ended last night, at Borneo Sports Arena (BSA), Kolombong.
In the championship, Bumblebee faced stiff competition from Kuala Lumpur, Volts in the final that ended with 20-10.
The second runner-up, held by OSCA after narrowly lost 9-10 against Volts in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, also won the champion title for under 21 category was Generation K2 Two by easily beating rivalry team, Medalist with 26-16 scores.
The third place was held by Koneta from Kota Belud.
Bumblebee also won two categories of which the Pest Scorer by Mathilda Fong in total of 123 scores and Jumaliah Saharuddin as Best Attacker while Best Defense by Aleen Nadhirah Mohd. Khadar from Volts.
The prizes were presented by Vice President I Sabah Netball Association (Sabana), Suminah Kok.
Meanwhile, the Director of President Cup Netball Championship, Ronika Ronald said the championship has created its own history with the participation of 30 teams for open category, and 11 teams for under 21 category.
Apart from that, she said, the participation of teams from Kuala Lumpur and Federal Territory of Labuan have enliven the president cup championship this time around.
“The well response shows the positive development in netball thus will be able to produce upholstery to represent this state to the national level.
“The participation of external team from Kuala Lumpur and Labuan also giving space and experience to the local players to compete healthily in netball,”she said.-SayangSabah
