ALOR SETAR: A surgery performed on a Form One student who endured physical beatings by a group of seniors at a religious school in Pokok Sena found the victim to have sustained injuries in the liver and omentum or fatty tissue which lines the intestines.
State Health Director, Datuk Norhizan Ismail said as a result, the victim suffered bleeding in the organs.
He said the victim was brought to the Emergency Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) at 1.34 am on Friday, after a report was lodged.
“We treated the victim immediately after he complained of intense pain in the abdomen and CT Scan and Ultrasound revealed injuries to the liver,” he said in a statement today.
Norhizan said the victim, who underwent a six-hour surgery, was now in stable condition and under close medical specialists’ supervision.
Yesterday, the media reported Mohd Irfan Aziz, 13, from Kampung Permatang Kaka, Kodiang sustained internal bleeding after he was assaulted by a group of seniors at a religious school in Pokok Sena on Thursday (Nov 19).
The victim was attacked for allegedly stealing a mobile phone belonging to one of the senior students as he was said to have been the earliest to enter the hostel room.
Meanwhile, Kota Setar district police chief ACP Adzaman Mohd Jan said police today arrested another suspect aged 18.
Yesterday, police arrested four suspects, aged between 15 and 17 years to facilitate investigation. – BERNAMA
