KLANG: Blood donors started their new-year with a noble deed by donating blood to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang.
The blood donation drive organised by Transhub Group of Companies on behalf of the HTAR was held at AEON Bukit Tinggi here, today.
“Each blood donation can save up to three lives,” said project manager K. Kalaimany, 62, to Bernama.
Kalaimany who has donated blood more than 20 times, said blood was a precious gift and such action was a noble act of service to humanity.
He said he was happy to kick start the 2016 New Year by engaging in a good cause and urged healthy individuals in the country to come forward and donate blood voluntarily and regularly.
Another donor, Jason, 30, said blood donation was a safe procedure and the availability of blood at the blood banks during the right time can help save lives.
Transhub Lines Sdn Bhd director Datuk Gnatuadan Mohd Othman said he anticipated some 100 donors to come forward and donate blood at the donation campaign held from 10am to 4pm.
“We are getting tremendous response from people especially from Klang folks and very much happy to collaborate for the first time with HTAR to organise this event. So far more than 50 people turned up to donate blood,” he said.
Some 26 volunteers from Transhub Group of Companies, 10 nurses and two doctors from HTAR took part in the donation drive.-BERNAMA
