KOTA KINABALU: The police advises the public to be cautious with any business online, especially when buying a product or service offered by unknown individual through phone or internet.
District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra, said as a prevention measure the public need to check the validity of online business that they are interested in through the relevant agency.
“It is better if the business is done face to face by both sides in order for them to identify each other if there is any fraud element,” he said.
Many cases that have been reported show that the victims failed to identify the perpetrator since they never met these individuals who are disguising as online trader, he said, adding that payment is also made by depositing money into the suspect’s bank account.
Advertising companies especially newspaper should also ensure that information such as identity, telephone number and address of each of their costumers are identical with what is being published.
“All business must be referred to certain parties and seek their advice, especially from the police because the person disguising as trader always persuade their victim to make payment beforehand,” he said. – SayangSabah
