KOTA KINABALU: The newly appointed Putatan district council members were told to persevere in facing various challenges, yesterday.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussein said their appointments was to ensure their participation in the facilitation of a smooth administration in that area.
He said he was aware of the various challenges they would have to face but believed that they would be able to carry out their task well due to their various previous experiences.
“As one of the main agencies providing services to people, it is also the responsibility District Council members to be efficient in their work and to be swift in their action, show integrity and be customer friendly.”
Speaking during the presentation of the appointment letters to the 15 Councillors, Yahya who is also the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries stressed they should be looking into various aspect of services for the community there.
“You will not only look into solid waste management, public hygiene and beautification but also other functions such as the implementation of development projects and infrastructure facilities for the public.”
“Therefore the council members must be proactive and act strategically to meet the expectation of the people,” he said, adding that it was necessary to establish a strategic plan to help them improve the delivery system to the public.
“This strategic plan should provide the basic framework, direction and focus areas for you which in future can be used as guidelines and utilised by all council employees,” he said.
He also stressed that cooperation must be forged between the Ministry of Local Government and Housing and the council to ensure that all aspects of administration were without glitches.
Yahya later presented the appointment letters to the council members, who would be serving the district from Jan 2015 to Dec 2016.-Sayangsabah.
