Attempt to smuggle gas tanks foiled

TAWAU: Attempt by a 20 years old local man to smuggle out 25 gas tanks to the neighbouring country was foiled when his boat was pursued by Tawau Marine Police (PPM) at Sungai Haji Kuning, at 8.00am this morning.

Sabah PPM Commander, ACP Mohamad Madun, said his team during the Ops Paradise patrol chased the boat that was acting suspiciously and succeeded in stopping the vessel for inspection.

“Inspection discovered that the speed boat was carrying 16 Shell gas tanks and 9 Petronas gas tanks, but the boat captain failed to show any document regarding on his cargo,” he said.
He added the arrest was made after the suspect was unable to show business license or controlled supplies certificate issued by KPDNKK.

Tawau PPM seized the boat, engine, and goods with a total worth of RM32,000. The case is investigated under Section 7 (4) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. –SayangSabah
