ATM robbery at a petrol station

SHAH ALAM: Four men escaped with cash totalling RM230,000 after they crashed a lorry into a fuel station and then used the vehicle to tow and damage an automatic teller machine in Taman Bukit Subang here early today.

Shah Alam Police deputy chief Supt Nek Zaidi Zakaria said the men had driven a three-tonne lorry to the station at 5.40am and rammed the vehicle onto the glass panel, surprising the two Bangladesh nationals manning the cash counter.

They then tied a rope around the ATM and towed it, thus damaging it and removed the money from within, he said.

They ordered the two workers to crouch behind the counter and grabbed RM700 from the cash register, he added.

Nek Zaidi said police were scrutinising the closed circuit television camera footage to identify the suspects.

One of the Bangladeshi employees, Shahidul Hassan, 22, said he and his colleague were frightened when the lorry suddenly rammed the premises.

However, he said, he was not able to see the faces of the robbers clearly because they wore helmets and masks.

“I only saw the suspects tying the ATM with rope and having the lorry tow it to break it open. Soon after that, they escaped,” he said. – BERNAMA
