LANGKAWI: Search and rescue teams led by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) today rescued all anglers onboard a boat which capsized near Pulau Payar here last night.
MMEA Northern Region operations director, Maritime Captain Salim Ahmad said he received reports that 19 people were rescued from the boat at about 2.30 pm and the total was higher compared to 15 people reported before this.
“We confirmed all victims were safe and had been transferred to fishing boats taking part in the operation to be brought to Kuala Kedah,” he said when contacted by Bernama here.
He said disruption in communications with the operation teams was hindering efforts to identify the actual total number of people who were onboard the boat which capsized about 10 nautical miles from Pulau Payar at about 10.30 pm last night.
According to him, the capsized vessel was refloated and was being towed to Langkawi which will take about four hours.- BERNAMA
