KOTA KINABALU: An administration assistant was fined RM41,500 fine in default 20 months jail by the Sessions Court for six charges of using fake documents.
Marlina Hanapiah, 38, pleaded guilty before Judge Datuk ishak Bakri, for all the charges which involves an accumulated sum of RM24,111.
Marlina committed the offense between 21 October to 29 November 2013 at the National Youth Skills Institute Department (IKBN), Kinarut, Papar.
She was charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code punishable under Section 465 of the same act with both sections imposed a two years jail maximum, a fine, or both, when found guilty.
In mitigation, Marlina applied not to be given the jail sentence since she has two children aged two and five years old at home.
“After this I will be unemployed and my husband has no permanent job. I ask that I can pay the fine in instalment if it is too high,” she pleaded.
The prosecutor, Awang Shamsul Baharam Bongsu from MACC, however, wanted a proper punishment for the accused as a deterrent to the public. -SayangSabah
