PUTRAJAYA: A temporary custody order on a five-year-old girl who was allegedly abused at Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas would only be
obtained after the victim completes her treatment, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.
She said this was because the girl could not move much, due to her injuries such as a fractured left rib and bent backbone, caused by a hard push or fall from a high place.
She added, a preliminary investigation the Pasir Mas District Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) Protection revealed a broken fracture which had almost healed, several scar marks on the head and body and cigarette burn marks on her private part.
“The Social Welfare Department will take appropriate action regarding the issuance of a temporary custody order to the girl’s biological mother,” she said in a statement here, today.
The girl is now being treated at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital and placed under the care of JKM.
Rohani said, JKM considered the case as serious and they would provide counselling service to the mother in ensuring the girl could be taken care of properly.
She said an investigation revealed that the parents divorced in 2013 and the girl was put under her father’s care since.
An interview with the mother also revealed that she only met her daughter in the Muslim month of Ramadan last year and during that time, there was no abuse marks on the child’s body.
Meanwhile, Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim confirmed that the girl’s father and stepmother, who allegedly abused her, were detained at Jalan Bayam, Kota Baharu, last night.
Mazlan said, the couple, aged 39 and 25, were arrested in front of a restaurant at 9 pm by the D9 and D8 Branch of the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquaters and would be remanded for four days, starting today for further investigation. – BERNAMA
