A good Sabahan who has the people’s welfare at heart, carrying out her duties as a loyal citizen may summarise the philosophy of Datuk Fatimah Shara Haji Ahmad Noor, a mother, a wife, an entrepreneur and a politician.
Born in the early 60’s in Semporna, she is the eldest of six siblings, born to Haji Ahmad Noor Haji Ramli and Mubarak Jan Aslam Kan.
She acquired her early education in Sekolah Rendah Kerajaan (SRK) Pekan Kudat (1971-1976) and then pursued her secondary education in SM St Peter Kudat (1977-1981 ). After passing her Malaysian Certificate of Education or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), she attended College Informatic in business management courses.
This background became a foundation for her later in her life when she expounded on women rights, education, good governance and politics.
Like most politicians, she joined as an ordinary member of UMNO in 1992 but her tremendous commitment and work resulted in her appointment as Vice Chairman of UMNO Women in Pulau Gaya district until 1995. Her tenacity in carrying out her job later led her to be nominated as the Chairman of UMNO women in Tanjung Aru district for two years.
In 1997, she became the Women Branch Leader of Kampung Ayer that lasted until 2000 and after that she was elected as Vice Chairman of UMNO for branch level from 2001 to 2006.
The implementation of a new border in 2006 led to her appointment as UMNO Vice Chairman in Kota Kinabalu district which she holds until now.
“I have been involved in politics for 23 years now. I enjoy it as there is a strong bond of friendship among fellow UMNO members. I love meeting new people and forging friendship with them. This party changed my life as I now can manage to help those in need.”
Apart from being a person to be reckoned with in politics, she is also an entrepreneur and was the Director of Unik Pesona Sdn Bhd from 1986 until 1990 and Director of Borneo Target Sdn Bhd in 1990 to 2000. She is now the Managing Director (MD) for Borneo Target Sdn Bhd from since 2000 .
She is an independent person and in touch with her inner feelings but she believes that achievements are only reached with hard work and commitments.
A mother of five children, she practises time management to ensure that she can deal effectively with all her work commitments and her family.
A hands-on mother, she performs her duties such as shopping with her children and preparing breakfasts every morning.
Fatimah, who is also the Sabah College Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairperson is active in entrepreneurship activities, where her lifelong experience in her business skills is applied to help women set up private businesses. She has worked with agencies such as TEKUN, MARA and UMNO entrepreneurship programmes in assisting women entrepreneurs.
She will be working towards a set of goals this year which she will undoubtedly achieve brilliantly as usual, while taking care of her two unmarried children.- By Saila Saidie/Sayangsabah.
